Berlin, March 27, 2025 – The BMWK-funded research project SISSY is focused on advancing smart metering systems into high-performance, scalable communication interfaces at controllable grid connection points. Lumenaza GmbH is now supporting the project as an “Associated Partner”, contributing its expertise in the testing and optimization of direct marketing processes.
The widespread deployment of intelligent metering systems (iMSys) presents both technical and organizational challenges. SISSY aims to develop solutions that ensure scalability, cost-effectiveness, and accelerated integration of these systems into the energy infrastructure. The project focuses on prototyping applications for integrating large-scale generation plants and incorporating vast numbers of smaller flexible assets into low-voltage grid levels (6 and 7).
Until now, the SISSY project has primarily concentrated on control measures in accordance with Section 14a of the German Energy Industry Act (EnWG). In its next phase, it will expand to include live feed-in data transmission to direct marketers and market-oriented control actions under Section 10b of the Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG).
With over a decade of experience in direct marketing, Lumenaza brings valuable market know-how to SISSY. The company will help test data transmission of TAF 9 readings from smart meter gateways and the implementation of market-driven control operations via smart meter infrastructure. Lumenaza is also contributing to the development of scalable, mass-market-ready processes. Its innovative SaaS platform for direct marketing and dynamic electricity tariffs provides a robust foundation — supporting efficient management of energy industry processes such as market communication, feed-in forecasting, balancing group management, electricity trading, and billing.
The Solar Acceleration Act, passed in February 2025, has improved the regulatory framework for the smart meter rollout, accelerating procedures and placing greater focus on grid connections with controllable devices. These developments further elevate the relevance of the SISSY project’s solutions for the energy transition.
About SISSY
The SISSY project aims to rapidly implement scalable, mass-market-ready control capabilities for both large and small flexible assets across the energy system using the iMSys infrastructure. It is developing standardized, Smart Meter Gateway–based solutions to manage the exponential growth of distributed generation and consumption assets. Funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK), SISSY builds on the success and learnings of its predecessor project, SMGW-forwards.
